Personally Grateful

I was taught in grade school for several years by the Sisters of the Holy Ghost.  Their Mother House was in San Antonio, Texas.  My school was St. Joseph’s Catholic school, in Zwolle, Louisiana.

Our Sisters were from Ireland.  I remember them as very talented and dedicated to their work.  Some of them recognized very early that I had an interest and talent in art.  They encouraged me and even gave me the fun job of creating drawings, which they then made copies of, for the entire class to color.

From this little bit of encouragement, I went on to receive an Art degree.  Even at my age, in my (70′s)

I am painting again, always remembering the drawings made for the Sisters at St Joseph’s school so long ago.

Four of our five children attended St Maria Catholic School in Arlington, Texas.  Some of the teachers were Nuns and some were Lay teachers.  The four older children were taught at their earliest schooling at Queen of Heaven, Cherry Hill, New Jersey.  A few years later they were taught at Queen of Apostles, Alexandria, Virginia.  The two older children, sons, went to Nolan Catholic High School in Ft Worth, Texas.  Some of their teachers were Nuns, and some were Brothers.

I believe the Catholic school foundation prepared all five of them for strong careers.  The sons are physicians.   One daughter is an attorney.   All five children are college graduates.

I am personally grateful for the contributation that Nuns made in the lives of our children, as well as their impact on my life.
