Tears Flowed

Returning to the eighth grade after the Summer vacation, I learned my teacher was the same nun I had in the seventh. The tears flowed. She had been so strict and had such a tight grip on the class. I floundered in the seventh and excelled in the eighth. Little did I understand then that although Sr. Janet was 19 years old, she had 46 eighth graders in her charge. Raising two children myself there were many days I understood what a precious individual she was. We are still close friends and visit and call on occasion but I am grateful for her guidance in my character, faith, outlook on life and deep appreciation of life. She was only one of many of the wonderful Sisters of St. Dominic of Amityville that I was lucky enough to know over the twelve years of parochial education.
